Tesla is refining the design of its Optimus robot to address key bottlenecks in the production process, CEO Elon Musk revealed on Platform X on Thursday.
Tesla's Optimus robot could be one of the company's most exciting products in the future. Musk has previously said that he believes the robot will be the most popular product ever because of its powerful features.
At the 'We, Robot' event in Los Angeles last month, Musk revealed that the robot will sell for between $20,000 and $30,000, and will essentially serve as the perfect assistant for anyone who needs help, IT House noted. It can walk the dog, babysit, and even serve drinks at your party, as shown in the official promotional video.
Despite the Optimus' growing functionality, Musk also admitted that Tesla is still in the process of improving its design, with the main aim of increasing efficiency for the production process. Musk said, 'Optimus is already taking on some tasks in the factory, and its range of capabilities is expanding rapidly. The hardest part right now is improving its design to streamline the production process while building a complex supply chain to enable mass production.'
Tesla has developed extensive experience in vehicle production, particularly in streamlining design and manufacturing processes, such as the Model Y and Model 3 models that share a large number of parts to increase production efficiency. Similarly, Optimus' design simplification will not only speed up production, but also make maintenance easier. That said, Tesla doesn't intend to compromise on functionality, especially when it comes to AI capabilities, and it's expected that the Optimus will be upgraded over time, just like Tesla's Autopilot technology.
